Support NSBO Opposition to S.B. 78
The Nevada State Board of Optometry (NSBO) and the Nevada State Board of Dispensing Opticians are actively opposing proposed legislation S.B. 78, which would consolidate the boards into one, While there are claims that S.B. 78 will streamline efforts and reduce costs, efforts to support this legislation, if successful, will dilute professional expertise, create patient safety risks, conflicts of interest and inefficiencies in regulation.
The Nevada Optometric Association (NOA) is STRONGLY SUPPORTING NSBO's opposition to this bill.
Doctors can access NSBO's position paper outlining the critical concerns with this legislation and we encourage Nevada optometrists to join NSBO in loudly opposing this bill.
In addition, members may access talking points on the legislation and the issues it poses to patient safety and efficiencies. Past experiences have shown that communicating directly with legislators is the most effective method for achieving success in legislative matters.
The NOA requests that you reach out to your legislators by phone, letter or email and share your concern with this legislation and support of NSBO's opposition.
You may visit the 2025 legislative website Nevada Legislature to find your legislator’s contact information. Click on “Session Info,” the 2025 (83rd) Session and scroll down to “Legislator Information.”
The NOA also has set up a central email address for anyone wishing to communicate by email: sgirisgenod@yahoo.com. We will share those messages with legislators.
The NOA’s lobbyists, bill sponsors and advocates are also already in Carson City working hard to pass a bill to fight vision plan abuses.
Please help, and make your voice heard, to protect and defend our profession regarding these critical matters.
