Update - Nevada Eyewear and Eye Care Consumer Protection Act - SB134
SB134 HEADED TO SENATE FLOOR FOR A VOTE
SB134, the NOA's Consumer Eyewear and Eye Care Protection Act, unanimously passed out of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor this morning, April 13. The bill is now headed to the floor of the Nevada Senate for a vote.
The NOA Executive Board, Legislative Committee, and our lobbying teams feel confident the bi-partisan supported bill will pass out of the Senate and make its way to the Assembly to be heard in that house.
The NOA is grateful to our bill sponsors, Senators Heidi Seevers Gansert, Pete Goicoechea, Robin Titus, Carrie Buck, Jeff Stone, and Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama; and co-sponsors Senators Skip Daly, Dallas Harris and Julie Pazina and Assemblymen Brian Hibbetts and Gregory Koenig for all their hard work on this bill thus far. We are also thankful for the work our Legislative Committee, Key ODs, lobbying teams, and members have been doing in meeting with, calling, and emailing legislators about our bill. And to those who have also voiced support online with the Legislature.
What's Next?
We may have passed this first hurdle, but the work is far from over to get our bill passed and signed into law. Our lobbying team, Legislative Committee members, and Key ODs continue working with legislators to keep our bill in mind and educate why SB134 is essential to get passed for patients and doctors. This is where PAC dollars are critical, as they help fund our efforts in the Legislature. And this is where every member, friend, and supporter of the NOA can help. We must refill the coffers and get more significant personal investment from every optometrist in the state. No matter the amount, every dollar donated to the Nevada Optometric PAC helps.
What Can You Do?
You can help SB134 by doing the following:
- If you haven't already voiced support online with the Nevada Legislature, go to NELIS now and tell legislators why you support SB134.
- Don't know what to say? Copy and paste the general message we have prepared here.
- Become a Key OD, reach out to your assigned legislator(s), and ask for their support of SB134.
- Contribute to the Nevada Optometric PAC.
Optometry needs you. The future of Optometry is now. Don't let Nevada be left behind.
